How to deactivate all your plugins on your WordPress ?

What is wordpress ?

WordPress is an open-source content management system that helps you to setup a website or blog within minutes. Thats a fair short introduction on one of the most used and popular CMS in the World.

It happens that when you have installed a plugin mainly a cache plugin or some redirection plugins or you just dont know which plugin that you have activate and your website show a 500 server error or  a blank page.

If you have root access on your serveur and can connect thought ssh here what to do to disable all your plugins :

[email protected]:~#cd /var/www/wordpress/wp-content/

[email protected]:~#mv plugins plugins.deactivate

This will automatically deactivate all the plugins on your serveur and you logining and check which plugin has broke your CMS.

If you don’t have ssh connection and but have an FTP account you can do the same by just renaming the folder plugins in the wp-content folder by browsing to it.

Now there is an alternative way to deactivate the plugins via the database :

You can run those commands via your phpmyadmin interface or connect to the database on your command line :

[email protected]:~#mysql -u root -p

mysql > use wordpress

mysql > UPDATE wp_options SET option_value = 'a:0:{}' WHERE option_name = 'active_plugins';

On your phpmyadmin interface you can run direct the update section in your query box.

In a blink of an eye all you plugins will be deactivated. Be very careful when installing any plugins before experimenting on different options.

Do leave me any questions if you guys are having difficulties, I will be glad to help you guys.
